Scuba Training
Whether you are completely new to scuba diving, or an experienced and certified diver who wants to pursue the next level, RGV Scuba has a training option for you! Check out our courses below and contact us at rgvscuba@gmail.com or (956) 780-3417 to sign up!
PADI Open Water Diver
Scuba certification consists of 3 parts:
1. Knowledge Development, a traditional class where we cover dive theory and safety. Too busy to sit in class? You can also begin with the course materials and videos independently, at your leisure, with our online resources! Then move on to review and pool when ready. Or set your own private group class for friends or family... whatever fits your schedule!
2. Pool session, 3-4 hours where we get hands-on experience underwater, and learn valuable diving skills, using standard and easy to use dive equipment.
3. Four Open Water dives, done at your convenience, schedule allowing. These “check-out” dives are the final step in certification, and can be done locally, such as off South Padre Island, or on one of our many dive trips throughout the year.
Cost:
Parts 1 and 2 above are $245 and covers all your course materials, class instruction and pool time, AND all gear and tank rentals. Friends and family are welcome to join you. Private instruction is slightly higher, contact us to inquire. Groups of family, friends, or coworkers can qualify for group discounts, and we can arrange dates for you in addition to our training calendar. Click here to go to the Sign Up page.
Extra pool sessions: one pool session is usually enough for most divers who are comfortable enough in the water to complete the basic skills. If you need additional pool sessions for further skill development or just to develop more comfort, they are $125 and will include all gear and another 3-4 hour session with comprehensive instruction, as needed!
Part 3 is considered separately, and could vary from local dives off of South Padre Island to one of our dive trips throughout the year. Based on this the cost can vary depending on the type of trip. Check with us for options and scheduling! You can also take a PADI Referral to complete your checkout dives (Part 3) on a vacation with a PADI Dive Shop anywhere around the world, as a flexible option! You can also bring us a Referral, having completed parts 1 or 2 elsewhere, and finish your certification with us!
Pool Session only
Have you completed the Knowledge Development portion already and need to do the pool? We have an option for that! If you have a referral from completing an e-learning course or completed the book/exam with another Instructor, we can pick up where you left off and get you in a pool session.
Cost: $185, includes your pool training time and all gear/tank rentals.
Advanced Open Water
Advanced Open Water certification is the next level beyond basic certification. This consists of independent Knowledge Reviews arranged to fit YOUR schedule. Then, the student and instructor choose a series of 5 dives which fit the type of diving the student desires. Besides navigation and a deep dive, the diver can choose to do single dives from any of the specialty courses (see below), which include night, photography, videography, diver propulsion vehicle, wreck, and many more...
Advanced certification can be accomplished over several weeks, or in as little as a weekend. The five necessary dives can be accomplished at different times, or completed in as little as two days!
Just have one day for diving? Ask about the Adventure Diver certification, which is just one day with 3 dives! Complete 2 more dives later to add the full Advanced rating.
Cost:
$245, course materials, Instructor guidance, and certification card processing included. Divers will complete a book review, and log 5 specialty dives; no book exam, but lots of experience! Dive charters are extra but gear rentals are included if needed (many advanced divers have bought their own gear at this level). Need to know more? Contact us today! Click here to go to the Sign Up page.
Rescue Diver
The PADI Rescue Diver Course: “challenging” and “rewarding” best describe the PADI Rescue Diver experience. Building upon your established diving knowledge and skills, this course expands on what you already know about how to prevent problems, and how to manage them if they occur.
The fun part about this course is rising to challenges and mastering them. Most divers find this course both demanding and rewarding, and at the end, say it’s the best course they’ve ever taken.
What You Learn: self rescue; recognizing and managing stress in other divers; emergency management and equipment; rescuing panicked divers; rescuing unresponsive divers.
Cost and prerequisites:
$395, includes course materials and any rental gear if needed. Also included are your pool training and one day dive boat charter to practice skills! Must be Advanced Open Water certified and hold current (within 2 years) CPR/First Aid certification. Minimum 4 students to hold the class. As there are fewer divers ready for Rescue, this class is held just a couple times a year. Contact us to get on a class list!
Divemaster
The first professional level in scuba diver training. Divemaster qualifies you to assist in teaching, to lead divers, and to work in the dive industry.
Certification and cost varies based on level of previous experience and logged dives, and ranges from a 2 week course to a variable-length internship where you will assist the Instructors and general dive operations while you accrue the necessary dive experience.
To start Divemaster, you have completed: Open Water Diver, Advanced, and Rescue Diver, and have logged a minimum of 40 dives to start.
Cost:
Variable, depending on dive needs and experience (internship or straight certification). It is expected that you own your own dive gear (BCD, Reg set, etc.) for training at this level. Contact us at (956) 780-3417 or rgvscuba@gmail.com
SCUBA Tune-up
A scuba tune-up is recommended whenever you’ve been away from diving for months or even years to freshen up those rusty skills and prepare for your next dive adventure.
Email us at rgvscuba@gmail.com to set a date for your scuba tune-up! In many cases, this can be done in conjunction with an open-water pool session to give you access to a comprehensive skill and gear review. So Please check our calendar for upcoming pool dates!
Cost:
$145, which includes all gear/tank rentals, pool time, and a comprehensive, Instructor-led review!
Specialties
PADI and RGV Scuba offer an abundance of specialty courses. Some of the most popular dive types include Deep Diving, Wreck Diving, Night Diving, Underwater Photography, and many more! Specialty certs start at $175 and include the course materials, Instructor review, and new certification card processing; rentals and boat charters are extra.
If you complete 5 specialty certifications, you can qualify for Master Scuba Diver! This is a non-professional rating (unlike Divemaster), but shows your expertise and comprehensive skills as a diver. If you just want to attain a top certification rating, without going professional, Master Scuba Diver could be for you! Cost: $195, and submitted with PADI once you have completed 5 specialty certifications.
Email us at rgvscuba@gmail.com to set a date for more information on specialties that you can pursue!
