STEM/SCUBA Outreach for Students
SCUBA and STEM Outreach for Middle and High School Students
The professionals of RGV Scuba have been certifying students for SCUBA diving and holding amazing dive trips for over 16 years! Often, we do outreach to middle and high schools in the community and provide a range of aquatic education and training. Students gain a greater understanding of environments that cover over 70% of our planet! See what we offer:
A visit by a STEM professional relating to SCUBA and diving technologies used in aquatic environments, as well as topics in marine biology, oceanography, and stewardship of the environment. If this interests you, please visit our partner non-profit at seasalliance.org.
Discover SCUBA diving. This a half day pool session, with hands-on experience using SCUBA gear, being a good dive buddy, and learning how to breath underwater. Some skills may be credited toward full Open Water training. The Discover session allows students to see what diving is all about in a safe environment!
PADI Open Water diver training. This includes both a program of Knowledge Development, as well as a qualifying pool session. The Knowledge Development portion can be held online, or in-person at your school or elsewhere. Training can structured as follows:
Five, 2 hour sessions, after school or evening
Three, 3 hour sessions, after school or evening
Two, 4 hour evening sessions
One full day (8 hour) session, usually Saturday or Sunday.
Pool sessions are usually one time, about 5 hours, and are scheduled at either a school or district pool, or through RGV Scuba. They are typically held on weekends, but this is flexible. We provide ALL gear within the training.
If students choose to pursue full certification, they have up to a year to schedule checkout dives either locally or on a dive trip (which can be put together for a student group with chaperones). Dive trips from our calendar may also be available. Or they may take a referral to complete dives on vacation. PADI certification is recognized worldwide and is generally good for life!
There is a charge for the Discover and Open Water programs, usually per student but we can work with you to budget for a group. Parents, siblings, and friends (10 years and older) are generally welcome to join for training programs. If you are looking to implement a Summer program, we can also work with you to develop it.
We’ve certified hundreds of new divers and lead many amazing dive trips each year. And SCUBA is a great way to promote social and emotional awareness, as it uses the buddy system and lends itself to team-building.
